This Episode’s Guest - Scilla Andreen, CEO of IndieFlix

Award-winning producer, director, and CEO of global entertainment screening service, IndieFlix, Scilla Andreen. Scilla fell into film, working initially as a costume designer on commercials and eventually for shows such as Dawson’s Creek, Smallville and The Wonder Years, in which she was nominated for an Emmy.

IndieFlix launched in 2005, aiming to “offer everything that Hollywood doesn’t offer”, starting off as DVD on demand with 36 titles, growing the library to 12,000 titles with worldwide rights. By 2007, the service transitioned the library to a streaming platform, creating the RPM model (Revenue per minute) paying filmmakers for every minute watched.

The other side of the business sees Scilla managing the creation of social impact films, streaming to thousands of schools and communities. Since the pandemic, the business has moved to online screenings, ranging from 10 to 32,000 people in any one screening!

Scilla tells me she just wants to do good in the world, and the way she knows how to do that best is through film, sharing peoples stories, and letting them know that they matter and that they belong.
